Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) has inaugurated a cutting-edge $15 million in-house facility dedicated to producing low and no-alcohol wines in the Barossa Valley. This new site, an expansion of the $165 million premium winemaking hub opened in 2022, underscores TWE’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Equipped with advanced dealcoholisation technology and a world-first patent-pending process that preserves the wine’s aromatic profile, the facility gently removes alcohol while maintaining the wine’s rich flavor and texture. This approach overcomes the drawbacks of traditional methods, which often compromise a wine’s chemistry, body, and mouthfeel.
Kerrin Petty, TWE’s Chief Supply and Sustainability Officer, emphasized the significance of the development: “This world-leading facility cements our position as a global pioneer in winemaking. It represents the latest step in creating a hub of innovation, technology, and sustainability in the Barossa Valley, where we’ve been crafting exceptional wine for over a century.”
The facility will produce the next generation of low and no-alcohol wines for iconic TWE brands such as Squealing Pig and Pepperjack, complementing existing offerings under Matua, 19 Crimes, Lindeman’s, and Wolf Blass.
TWE Group Winemaker Toby Barlow highlighted the advantage of internalizing the dealcoholisation process: “Bringing this technology in-house allows us to better preserve the complex aromas and flavors that define each grape varietal and the unique character of place.”
Sarah Parkes, General Manager of Sales and Marketing for TWE’s global premium division, noted that flavor has traditionally been a challenge for no and low-alcohol wines. “This technology has cracked the flavor puzzle, earning outstanding consumer feedback. With award-winning products already established, we are excited to introduce this next generation of great-tasting wines starting next month.”
