BMW is rolling out significant updates to its i4 electric sedan ahead of the i3’s upcoming Neue Klasse redesign. The refreshed i4 features a new inverter equipped with advanced silicon-carbide semiconductor components, boosting energy efficiency by approximately 5 percent. This improvement translates to an estimated 14 additional miles of range per full charge, though actual mileage may vary depending on the trim and configuration.
Currently, the rear-wheel-drive eDrive40 variant offers an EPA-estimated range of 301 miles, while the all-wheel-drive xDrive40 delivers 307 miles with either 18- or 19-inch wheels. The previous range leader, the M50, tops out at 245 miles.
In addition to enhanced efficiency, BMW is elevating the i4’s performance with the introduction of the M60 trim, which replaces the outgoing M50. The M60 unleashes up to 592 horsepower in Sport mode—an increase of 56 horsepower over its predecessor.
BMW confirmed to Car and Driver that these updates will debut this summer in Europe, but U.S. production will commence in the fourth quarter, with availability slated for the 2026 model year. Official pricing and precise range figures will be announced closer to launch.
