Mountain Culture, a three-time winner of the GABS Hottest 100 polls, has officially acquired Fox Friday Brewing along with its associated assets from administrators.
The acquisition includes the acclaimed Carwyn Cellars store in Thornbury, Fox Friday’s taprooms located in Hobart, Melbourne, and Perth, as well as the Moonah Hotel & Cellars in Hobart.
In a joint statement, Mountain Culture co-founders DJ and Harriet McCready expressed enthusiasm about the deal: “We deeply respect Fox Friday—not only for their outstanding beer but also for the vibrant local communities they’ve cultivated. This acquisition allows us to continue our brand’s impressive growth, engage authentically with new communities, and support the craft beer industry as a whole.”
While Mountain Culture has yet to reveal detailed plans for the newly acquired venues, the immediate priority is to meet with each team and develop tailored transition strategies. They also promised to announce further developments in the near future.
Founded in Tasmania in 2019, Fox Friday rapidly emerged as a standout in Australia’s craft beer scene, renowned for its hazy and American-style brews. However, the group entered voluntary administration in April following an ASIC investigation into its primary lender, Falcon Capital. The probe, sparked by concerns over Falcon’s management and investor risks, culminated in Federal Court-appointed liquidators winding up the lender.
This acquisition marks another significant milestone for Mountain Culture, which has expanded its influence across Australia, not only through its GABS Hottest 100 victories but also by acquiring the former Atomic Brewing site in Redfern and welcoming Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins as an investor.
