Samsung is preparing to launch the highly anticipated Galaxy Watch 8 series, with the promise of a fresh design and improved features aimed at enhancing the user experience. Recently, the APK of the One UI 8 Watch firmware was decompiled by Android Authority, revealing exciting new details about the upcoming devices. Among the key changes, the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic will sport a new look, including a redesigned body and a “quick launch button.”
According to leaked software animations, the Galaxy Watch 8 series will include two models: the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Watch 8 Classic. Unlike previous iterations, which featured a traditional round body, this generation will adopt a design reminiscent of the Galaxy Watch Ultra, with a rounded square case paired with a round screen. This new design combines square and round elements to deliver a more modern, distinctive aesthetic.
The Galaxy Watch 8 series will retain two physical buttons, the Home and Back buttons, and will continue to support body composition measurement. However, the Watch 8 Classic will introduce a new “Quick Launch Button” for enhanced functionality. Its overall appearance will resemble a smaller version of the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Interestingly, although the Watch 8 Classic retains a physical bezel, it is likely that the bezel will be non-rotational, serving more as a decorative feature and screen protection rather than a functional control.
In addition to the design changes, leaked details suggest the Galaxy Watch 8 has passed the US FCC certification, confirming the availability of a 4G-enabled version. Connectivity options will include Wi-Fi 4, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, and NFC. Notably, the watch will support Wi-Fi hotspot sharing and Wi-Fi Direct, potentially streamlining the process of transferring music or photos to the device.
The Galaxy Watch 8 series is expected to be powered by the Exynos W1000 processor, with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The watches will also feature dual-frequency GPS, MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability, and a high-brightness AMOLED display. On the health front, Samsung is set to enhance its BioActive sensor, introducing new features such as “vascular load” indicators, AI-driven health coaching, antioxidant tracking, and dietary recommendations, all aimed at improving overall health monitoring.
The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic has already received Bluetooth SIG certification, a crucial step before its official release. These certifications suggest that the new smartwatch series is on track for a launch in July, coinciding with the debut of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 foldable phones, and Galaxy Buds FE2 true wireless earbuds.
