After carefully assessing a long list of contenders, we are excited to unveil the 10 finalists and two wildcards that have made it to the next stage of the prestigious carsales Car of the Year (COTY) 2023 competition. This highly anticipated event, proudly presented by Bingle, showcases the best of the best in the automotive industry.
The 10 impressive finalists, consisting of models that stood out during the past year of rigorous road testing, are ready to prove their worth. In addition, we have chosen two wildcards that the judging panel believes deserve a fair chance, despite not being reviewed locally at the time of selection. These vehicles show exceptional promise and innovation.
To be eligible for the carsales Car of the Year proudly presented by Bingle, each vehicle must meet certain criteria. It must be an all-new or substantially upgraded model released within the last 12 months, available for testing, and have at least one variant priced below $250,000. Furthermore, the car must be equipped with standard features such as autonomous emergency braking and a reversing camera across its range.
Determining the winner of the carsales Car of the Year is no easy task. The decision is made through a combination of votes from the 10 judges after a week of intensive testing and comprehensive cost-of-ownership data provided by RedBook, Australia’s leading automotive valuation authority. RedBook evaluates the vehicles based on various factors, including price compared to other models in the same market segment, depreciation, running costs, aftersales services, new technology, and selected standout features.
The judges also provide their own assessment based on four crucial criteria: safety, innovation and technology, practicality and presentation, and road testing. It is important to note that each vehicle is judged within its market segment, rather than against the other finalists. The award is given to the entire range of a brand, not just a single variant.
