The ninth edition of the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week (MTCWFW) wrapped up with a stunning display of Namibian and African fashion, solidifying its reputation as one of the continent’s premier fashion events.
Held at Maerua Mall over four days, the event brought together 40 designers from a mix of established names and rising stars. Local fashion icons such as Moon Goddess Design Studio, Sirenga, and Zuriel by Luis Munana captivated audiences with their cutting-edge designs. Emerging talents, including King_A_Apparel, Top Score, Fyn Chyn Creations, and House of Poulton, also made a significant impact, offering a glimpse into the future of Namibian fashion.
The event featured international designers from Angola, Zambia, South Africa, and Botswana, adding an exciting global dimension to the showcase. This diverse representation brought a rich, international flair to the runway, reinforcing the event’s status as a truly continental celebration of style.
One of the highlights was the participation of seven student designers from Namibia’s College of the Arts (COTA), whose work provided a fresh perspective and new talent for the fashion industry. This initiative offered invaluable exposure and learning opportunities, further elevating the event’s educational aspect.
Alvaro Mukoroli, the director of MTCWFW, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s success, emphasizing its role in promoting Namibian fashion on the world stage. “MTC Windhoek Fashion Week provides a platform for both local and international media to showcase Namibia’s growing fashion industry. This year’s event beautifully blends innovation, tradition, and cultural expression, making it a must-see for fashion enthusiasts and industry insiders alike,” Mukoroli said.
A standout moment was the Damara Horokhoes showcase, which featured traditional dresses worn by the Damara community. Former Miss Namibia Jameela Uiras participated in the exhibition, titled Trails of the Damara Horokhoes, which marked the beginning of the week’s festivities. The showcase honored Namibia’s rich cultural heritage and provided a meaningful opportunity for cultural exchange within the fashion industry.
With its fusion of contemporary and traditional influences, the MTC Windhoek Fashion Week continues to be a vital platform for Namibia’s fashion scene, highlighting the country’s growing presence in the global fashion landscape.
